Tour 1
Chennai port, one of the major ports situated along the South East coast of India is more than a century old that is under continuous modernization. This is an artificial port. The initial construction of Chennai Port commenced in 1875 and has undergone several changes mainly to counteract the adverse problems associated with the sediments finding its way to the entrance channel.
Tour 2
Ennore Port, located on the about 24 km north of Chennai port is the 12th major port of India. Ennore Port was originally conceived as a satellite port to the Chennai Port, primarily to handle thermal coal to meet the requirement of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) was commissioned in 2001.
Coastal protection site –north of Chennai, a perennial problem of erosion over five decades due to the inception of northerly net drift. The erosion has been arrested that has also enhanced beach build up due to construction of groin fields.

Coastal Engineering sites along South Chennai- A classical example of coastal erosion/accretion due to nature and man-made causes and mitigated by hard measures.
